Where Do You “Don’t Belong”
Something powerful came up in Bible Study a few weeks ago. It was said that, “We don’t have to have it all together for God to use us.”
Sometimes, our big dreams and goals can be intimidating. We may not feel like we have what it takes or don’t have ourselves all the way together, or we may just feel like we don’t have the discernment to know if this is really what God is calling us to do.
Being intimidated and overwhelmed about big goals and dreams is something I’ve always struggled with. It’s hard to show up and perform in places where I don’t feel like I belong, and admitting that is difficult because it feels like I’m wearing a sign on my forehead that says, “Hi! I’m weak and don’t know what I’m doing.” As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that feeling is not so uncommon. A friend of mine made it very plain for me – We may not have the accolades or the experience to belong in the same rooms as the people that do, but we have every right to be there because that is where God put us. It’s a mental battle of getting out of our heads, shaking off the imposter syndrome, and just letting God do His thing.
When we surrender our plans and worries to God, He tends to show out the most. This doesn’t mean we don’t have work to do or that we shouldn’t prepare for our goals and dreams to come into fruition; We just can’t be afraid to take that first step and walk confidently where God says we belong. It’s okay to be successful. It’s okay for things to work out for you that don’t make sense. It’s okay to have talents that put you ahead of others with more tenure. It’s okay to be fulfilled in the life you live and seeing the things you prayed for come to life.
Push past the fear and doubt. Nine times out of ten, if you are feeling uncomfortable about where life is taking you, then you’re probably just where you’re supposed to be. Trust me from experience, there isn’t much thriving that occurs in our comfort zones.
