Still Got It

I was surprised when I was killing my workout this morning because I’ve been really inconsistent this month. I expected to struggle and have a lot of pain but I was back like I never left.

It got me thinking…just because you’ve slacked off or messed up doesn’t mean you lost everything you’ve worked for and learned along the way.

In recovery, many people relapse; I’m one of them. My sponsor once told me that you don’t lose everything you’ve learned during your sobriety just because you “went back out” (took a drink again).

With our faith, we may find ourselves slacking on studying the Word or going to church. This doesn’t mean we lose everything that God has instilled in us through our relationship with Him.

It’s the beauty of discipline; It builds consistency which builds lasting results. When we consistently pour things of substance into our foundation, we set ourselves up to have a solid “default setting.” So even when we may just be going through the motions, we’ve built things into the core of who we are that we’re going to operate in regardless of our physical/material, emotional, and spiritual standing at that time.

The important thing is to get back to it and never give up on putting the work in. And remember that this kind of work gives back. It’s worth it.
