Stay Up

2020 has been trying in ways that most of us would have imagined. The world was faced with a pandemic forcing us to isolate in extreme fashion – facilities closed, unemployment at an all-time high and limited access to basic needs. If that were not enough, the number of innocent black lives lost continued to rise at an alarming rate. It is the year for the presidential election and we are forced to constantly remind ourselves to not be distracted from the importance of voting.

In short – this has been the longest, most eventful and unanticipated 6 months most of us have ever been through.

Christians would refer to this as a season in our lives – we can identify a common theme during a time period in our lives, whether that be working longer hours with little free or social time in preparation of the launch of your new business, graduating or the like. Your season could be one of new opportunities that you’ve been working towards – new relationships, business ventures, health changes or environment. This season seems to be one of readjusting, tenacity and change.

As a whole, we have been thrust into a new way of living. How we work, entertain, spend our free time, travel, who we spend our time with and even how we shop have been altered for an indefinite amount of time. Yet and still, life is not showing any signs of slowing down. The only way to stay sane, let alone be victorious, joyful and at peace, is to stay strong. Cliche? Of course. Nonetheless, the statement is still true.

Yes, we can get angry, frustrated, overwhelmed, scared, discouraged, alone and tired. We cannot, by any means, remain angry, frustrated, overwhelmed, scared, discouraged, alone and tired. We HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING. Enjoy learning new crafts, use your newfound free time to build your business, make time for your loved ones, workout outside or at home, continue your education, allow yourself to heal, fight the good fight even when it is tiresome. Actively look for the beauty in each of life’s trials – even fighting for Black Lives and navigating an unpredictable virus. Pushing and persevering have to become habits. Hope has to become a habit.

2020 is an unpredictable year that clearly comes with many tests and trials – all of which we are more than capable of overcoming.

Trust in your support system and do not be tricked into thinking you can fight the good fight alone. Trust in your own strengths, gifts and talents. Trust in your purpose and dismiss every thought that invites depression, anxiety, fear and despair into your mind, body and spirit.

Keep your head up. Stay up.
