I Change
“Most of the time, the situation doesn’t change, but I do. And that makes all the difference.”
I heard this in a meeting recently and it was a good reminder of the power of surrender and acceptance. The key is what, or better yet, who, we are surrendering to. For me, I’ve been shown the power of surrendering to God.
When I trust God, I can entrust my plans, worries, and desires to Him; I can shift from self-will to God’s will. Instead of trying to control everyone and everything, I can practice acceptance, meet people with grace, and act with wisdom to carry out what God would have me do.
I’ve learned a hard, freeing lesson – “we are powerless over other people”. We’re really powerless over many things. This doesn’t put me in a place of paralysis and hopelessness. This revelation wakes up my faith, reminding me that God holds all the power, and the peace I seek lies within His ever-present help; I just have to be willing to receive it IN HIS TIMING. And in the meantime, I focus on what I can do, and do that next right thing.
