Alone

I like to spend time alone. I like to spend time in silence.

I do this to welcome any thoughts and emotions I may have not been able to tend to during the day-to-day chaos.

“Alone Time” gives me the opportunity to check in on myself – How am I really doing?

I like to refer to it as a “temperature check” of my overall well-being, which is hard to do in the midst of so much “noise”.

I like to start with what I consider my biggest priorities: relationship with God, goal progress, relationships, health (physical & mental) and hinderances. Of course, there are so many aspects to life but, ultimately, we want to simplify it. Be careful not to address every. single. thought.

I am a Christian, so my relationship with God dictates my life entirely and above any other influences. Like any relationship, one with God requires a consistent effort and commitment to truly experience the fruits of a healthy, love-filled union. So I contemplate how often I am praying (talking to Christ), reading my Bible, studying The Word (Holy Bible), serving (active in the church or volunteer opportunities), attending church (streaming per COVID-19 regulations 🥴), applying Christian principles to my life and if my life brings glory or shame to God’s name.

Let’s pause here.

I recommend everyone write down the findings that their mind and memory reveals – no need to be formal, just get the thoughts down so you can check back later.

Moving on.

You will find that most questions and answers are transitions, which is both a blessing and curse; You are able to move through different avenues of your life’s map, but you risk going into a rabbit hole of unproductive thoughts (i.e. endless “what if” scenarios).

Sorting through your mind and emotions is no easy task, but it is so rewarding. We do not need to fear our thoughts. We are not slaves to our emotions; In fact, we are masters of our emotions.

You’ll want to determine what you need more or less of to live the life you want to live, and do so in joy and in peace.

Trust yourself and trust the process.
