About DASH
Who is DASH?
I am a Black woman, born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA (home of the Steelers, baby). At the age of 9, my mother moved us to North Carolina, where I fell in love with the south and still reside today.
My academic journey revealed my knack for writing, while life’s journey revealed my knack for connecting with others.
My family has always been a Christian family, so I was raised to have faith in Christ Jesus, which is a key principle that I still live by today.
My own battles with anxiety and depression are what led me to create this blog: being able to connect with others through honest, inspiring conversation has empowered me to take control of my life, no matter the circumstances, and ultimately granting me a consistent dose of peace.
Birth of the Blog
I have always been sensitive, good with people, and quite frankly, an open book…except where it counted most. I shared everything but my dark thoughts until I simply couldn’t hide it anymore. As a Christian woman, having faith in Christ, a healthy prayer life and regular church attendance were some good habits that kept me afloat. It was not until I was willing to bare my struggles with others that I truly began to find myself and take control of my life. This transparency opened the door for intimate, powerful conversations about battling anxiety and depression, overcoming addictions, finding purpose, breaking toxic cycles, insecurities and all the parts of ourselves that we’d rather hide but so desperately need to unburden ourselves with.
Fast forward to January 2020 and the creation of this website finally commenced. I hope to inspire and empower individuals while alleviating the false truth of being alone in fighting these internal wars that shape the quality of our lives and our peace of mind. This site will thrive from interaction: comments and emails will make way for fellowship and the opportunity to learn from and support one another.
